District Seven GNT Conditions of Contest 2004-2005

ACBL CONDITIONS OF CONTEST ARE A PART OF THESE CONDITIONS,

including those for KO, RR and Swiss events.

 

1. ALL Units SHOULD have a qualifying event for each of the 3 Flights. These may be combined and run as a stratified event. There is no limit to the number of Unit qualifying games. Local clubs may also hold any number of qualifying games, and these may be used to satisfy the Unit requirement. NO SANCTION IS NECESSARY FOR THESE.

 

2. A player MUST be a member of the ACBL in good standing at any past the club level. (Non-members are allowed to play at the club level). A player MUST be a member of the sponsoring District at any event past club level (See exceptions allowed for students, military, etc.  Pre-approval is required).

 

3. DISTRICT FEES are $6.00 per team for a one-session event, or $10.00 per team for a two-session or multi-session event.  One FORM, RESULT FORM(S), the District fees, and any correspondence should be sent to the District Coordinator.  A COPY OF EACH FORM, and $1.25 PER TEAM PER SESSION should be sent to ACBL. COMPUTER PRINTOUTS may be used instead, but PLEASE BE SURE INCLUDE THE PHONE NUMBER & ADDRESS OF THE MANAGER AND/OR DIRECTOR(and email address if available).

 

4. FLIGHTS are defined by the masterpoint holding as of September 1. The September masterpoint cycle (determined before the 2nd week of August) will determine a player's Flight eligibility.

FLIGHT A players (0-infinity) qualify at the local level to to the District Final, where this Flight will SPLIT into Flight A (0-5000) and Open (0-infinity).

FLIGHT B (0-2000) and Flight C (0-500 Non-Life Master) will be held in 3 stages: Stratified or Flighted Local Qualifiers sponsored by Clubs; FLIGHTED AREA SEMI-FINALS: FLIGHTED DISTRICT FINALS.

 

5. Players QUALIFY as INDIVIDUALS in local qualifying games.  Teams Area Semi-Finals and Flight A District Finals may be formed by any previously qualified players. A Flight C player who qualifies in Flight A thereby qualifies in B & C, or who qualifies in Flight B thereby qualifies in Flight C. A Flight B player who qualifies in Flight A thereby qualifies in Flight B.  Players MAY NOT enter more than one Semi-Final in the same Flight, but MAY enter a second Semi-Final in a different Flight. If qualified for Flight A, players who enter but do not qualify to advance from a Semi-final may enter the Flight A or Open District Final, or may choose to do so anyway. 6. QUALIFYING TO ADVANCE: finish in the top 50% (plus ties) of the field, OR have a score equal to 50%, or higher (applies to local Semi-Final events).

 

7. The FIVE Flight B & C Area Semi-Finals will be TWO-SESSION ONE-DAY events, and will be Swiss or Round-Robin, depending on number of teams entered.

8. DISTRICT  FINALS  FOR  ALL  FLIGHTS will be held in conjunction the  Morganton, NC Sectional  April 29-May 1, 2005, where players will enjoy all the wonderful hospitality for which these tournaments are renowned! The format for each Flight will be determined by the number of teams entering that Flight. THERE IS A VERY HIGH PROBABILITY THAT EACH FLIGHT WILL CONTINUE FROM SATURDAY TO SUNDAY.

 

IF ONLY ONE OR TWO TEAMS APPEAR AT AN ADVERTISED QUALIFYING EVENT, EACH SUCH TEAM MAY PAY THE APPROPRIATE ENTRY FEES OWED THE DISTRICT ($6.00) and ACBL ($1.25) plus any fee the sponsor chooses to charge, and THEREBY QUALIFY TO ADVANCE.  THERE WILL BE NO MASTERPOINTS AWARDED FOR THIS AUTOMATIC QUALIFICATION.

 

NOTE : MID-CHART WILL BE ALLOWED IN ALL (Club & District level) STAND-ALONE FLIGHT A (& DISTRICT FINAL OPEN FLIGHT) GNT & NAP EVENTS.

 

RULES ON SUBSTITUTION, REPLACEMENT, AUGMENTATION

(Area Semi-Finals, Final)

SUBSTITUTION:

ONE substitution may be allowed at the discretion of the DIC, but WILL NOT be allowed if a fifth or sixth member of the team is available. A substitute MAY NOT substantially improve the team.  A substitution is temporary.

 

REPLACEMENT and AUGMENTATION

Players may be replaced ONLY with the consent of the replaced player. Both Replacement and Augmenting players MUST have qualified in a -level event.

 

AREA SEMI-FINALS

Teams which qualify to advance (50% of the field, plus ties, AND any team with a score equal to 50% or higher) to the District Finals may replace one or two players for the District (and National) competition, and may augment.

 

DISTRICT WINNING TEAM, for advancement to the Nationals: A TEAM-OF-FOUR may ADD one or two players. If one or two of an original four have to drop out, both replacement and augmentation are allowed, to create a team of 5 or 6.

 

A TEAM-OF-FIVE may ADD one player, and may replace one or two who withdraw.

 

A TEAM-OF-SIX may replace one or two players who withdraw. IF drop-outs exceed the number which may be replaced AND augmentation (as allowed above) does not result in a team of at least four players, the second place team will advance instead.

 

NOTE: Players who become replacements AFTER an event (local, Area Semi-Final, District, or National) has begun will receive only match awards for that level, but will participate fully in awards at levels.

 

AWARDS: The District will provide a MINIMUM of $1600 per team to help defray expenses incurred when advancing to the National Finals. It is NOT a monetary award for winning the District Final and WILL NOT be granted to a team which does not participate in the National GNT Final.
